Some Birds are Preparing for Spring

If you are walking around Pony Wood you should hear a greater spotted woodpecker drumming away and a song thrush tuning up.

A better view

Meanwhile we are still putting down seed and gradually moving the table near to the gate to give a better view. We are also scattering  seed thinly on the ground  to give the smaller birds a better chance.

Regular visitors

We regularly see a robin, blackbirds, chaffinch, blue tit and reed bunting using the feed. In the wood and hedgerow also look out for wren, coal tit, great tit, goldfinch as well as the corvids and wood pigeons.

Heard but not seen

Our bird app (Merlin) has recently picked up nuthatch, chiffchaff and stock dove – it would be good to get a confirmation of these.

Ominous for the little ones

Further away and more ominous for the little ones – a sparrow hawk on the gate into the field opposite the bridge into Haverbreaks.
