I was admiring the muddy edges at School Pond this morning, thinking how good they looked for attracting passing waders when I noticed a smart green sandpiper feeding amongst the rushes. This will be a post-breeding bird returning from northern Europe. It may be one of the relative few that spends the winter here in the UK, or is more likely heading further south to spend the cooler months in Southern Europe or Africa.
