I was in the Flora Field yesterday checking the clearing of the wild flower margin when I disturbed three partridge. I am pretty sure I glimpsed red legs – but aren’t ‘ours’ grey partridge?????

Grey partridge have very noticeable rusty red outer tails, so I expect that’s what you saw rather than their legs. If they flew up from you (as opposed to running away) you’d definitely get the flash of red from these feathers.

The comment above makes sense, the birds flew up and away rather than running so the ‘red flash’ was probably their feathers rather than legs.
