Great Spotted Woodpecker Nest in Pony Wood

Sunday 2 June in the afternoon.

Spoke to a gentleman who had been visiting for the last week to observe the nest of a Great Spotted Woodpecker.  As we watched a red head poked out of a hole in a tree and started loudly shouting.  An adult arrived with food and this continued in a similar vein for some while.  The adult occasionally went into the hole but quickly exited and went to get more food.

The nest hole can be viewed from the path going up from the noticeboard and just before the new pollinator patch.
