Queens Award for Voluntary Service

Young Volunteers

The Fairfield Association welcomes young people joining our activities. These include:

  • regular working parties maintaining the Nature Reserve
  • participating in our annual events such as the Easter Egg Hunt, Apple Day, and Wassailing.

We try to minimise the formalities. Young people (or their parents) can join the Association for free, but this is not required.

Safety

We always have first aiders on hand at our events and safety is a priority. Volunteers should provide suitable footwear and waterproof clothing. It will get dirty given the work we do so do dress down rather than dressing up!

Awards

Some young people volunteer in part to meet the requirements for a qualification or award, such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s scheme. We are very happy to play our part in supporting young people in such activities. The Fairfield Association is also a corporate member of The John Muir Trust and we award the Trust’s certificates to mark achievement in maintaining our landscape.

If you do plan to use your voluntary ‘service’ in connection with an award, please be sure to discuss your requirements with the Volunteer Organiser before you start.

Contact

Please contact for any further information or clarification.

Consent form

We do require people aged 14-17 to complete our consent form, giving the written consent of a parent or guardian.

When helping at an event for the first time, the completed consent form should be handed to the Volunteer Organiser.

Under 14s

Children under 14 can contribute to our volunteering work but they must be always accompanied by a parent or guardian who must closely supervise their activity at all times.
